“Seeing Happiness” is a collection of photographs featuring personal expressions of happiness.

The process of discovering what photography can tell us about ourselves – our loves, curiosities, and our own places of joy – inspired this project with The Explorers Program – an arts initiative for individuals with varied needs and abilities. Each Explorer received a 35mm single-use film camera and journal to record their thoughts and images of happiness. The Explorers then took photographs during our excursions to favorite sites and independently at their own homes or places of personal interest.

The single-use film cameras produce photographs with a lo-fi impressionist, dreamlike quality that we found quite beautiful. The textures and color shifts seem reminiscent of another time or fading memories. This book features a selection of their distinctive photographs together with the words of each photographer.
