Flows of Reflectivity is a collaborative photography exhibition bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives on light, reflectivity, and glacier ecology. Blending artistic inquiry with scientific documentation, the works offer a space to explore the optics of light, perception, and our changing relationship with the natural world. A central theme is the phenomenon of albedo—the measure of how much sunlight is reflected by a surface—and its role in understanding reflectivity and the broader climate crisis.

Maurides’ artistic practice and teaching are shaped by her multidisciplinary background in both the natural sciences and fine arts. Her photographic compositions in this exhibition come from ongoing bodies of work that investigate the optics of vision, the behavior of light, and the curious nature of reflectivity through diverse photographic processes and performance.

Yager’s scientific data includes photographs of glaciers over time. Photographs from select expeditions show the varying states of glaciers, from fractured to flowing. In the high Andes, glaciers are not only important socio-ecosystems but also considered deities or Apus by local Indigenous communities. Glaciers are protectors, providers, and keepers; they are living systems that created the landscape we inhabit today.

This exhibition features the dynamic time-lapse photography of the Sólheimajökull glacier (Iceland) by environmental photographer James Balog, from the Earth Vision Institute. His work adds another layer of insight, capturing ongoing changes in our natural world over time.

We hope to create a space for conversations across disciplines and cultures that deepen awareness of the nature of light and the role of reflectivity in shaping glacier systems and our changing climate.
